The Burghàlie Resort is an annual fashion fundraiser competition presented by The Burghalie Academy of Visual Arts. Designers compete for a chance to win a cash prize, photoshoot with a celebrity photographer, and a notable blog publication. The Burghàlie Academy of Visual Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that uses art and fashion as a healthy alternative for at-risk youth. We emphasize the prevention of homelessness, recidivism, and delinquency, as we aim to empower youth for healthy living as adults.

KEY POINTS:

  • For the 2023 Burghàlie Resort the cash prize is currently set at $5,000.00 for the Atlanta Edition and $10,000.00 for the New York Fashion Week Edition. Price will increase as the number of sponsors increase.

  • There are only 12 designer slots (TBR X ATL EDITION) and 20 designer slots (TBR x NYFW EDITION). Once those slots have been filled, designers are still able to present at the fashion show, however, they will not be considered for the competition.

  • Designers will be judged by industry professionals on a point system in the following categories:

    • Mood Board

    • Quality of Design

    • Runway Presentation

  • To begin the submission process, designers must complete this application and pay the non-refundable $100.00 application fee. This will enter the designer into the competition. The total cost to participate in this competition is $500.00 (TBR X ATL EDITION) and $2,000.00 (TBR x NYFW EDITION), therefore, this deposit can be applied to that remaining balance. If a designer would simply like to present in the NYFW show rather than compete the fee to participate is $1,000.00. Designers will then receive an invitation via email for a virtual consultation with the event director. This is considered PHASE 1 of the Burghàlie Resort for designers.

  • During the virtual consultation, the event director will explain the competition in more detail and the judging process. This will help the designers better understand how to prepare their collection for the competition.  This is considered PHASE 2 of the Burghàlie Resort for designers.

  • To be eligible to compete, the designer must pay the remaining registration fee for their respective show. This will cover the designers runway photos, runway models, professional video footage of the show, and media coverage. Payments can be split up into payments, however, all funds must be received no later than 30 days from the show date. During the time leading up to the show, the designer must create 6 complete looks (TBR X ATL EDITION) or 10-12 complete looks for (TBR x NYFW EDITION) to present at the Burghàlie Resort Fashion Show. This is considered PHASE 3 of the Burghàlie Resort for designers.

  • Finally, on Burghàlie Resort day, the judges will examine the designer's mood board as well as the quality of the designs, and give each designer a score. Next, the designers will present their pieces on the runway for the judges to examine one last time. Following this, the scores will be totaled and the winner will be announced. This is considered PHASE 4 of the Burghàlie Resort for designers.
